Although Au is located almost in the center of Munich, it is still a rather quiet neighborhood. Situated between the river Isar and Isarhochufer with Nockerberg, it is predominantly a small-part, grown residential area. Before incorporation in 1854, the Au consisted almost exclusively of small artisan houses. Over the years, of course urban development has reached the Au but in some parts, due to the cozy little hostels, there is a feeling like on a journey through time back to the 19th century.
